Kudos to Discount Tires in High Point, NC
18 months ago i bought a set of yokohama geolander at +II's at Discount Tire in High Point, NC. I purchased the free tire replacement road hazard certificates for $22.00 each on the 4 tires I bought. Tires were $144.00 each.
Fast forward 18 months and 20,000+ miles. Driving home the other night on twisty higher speed (50 mph) road with wife/kidlet in the LX, i ran over a Stihl chain saw adjustment tool with the left sides. Entry/exit wound on the front, entry wound on the rear with about 7 inches worth of the Stihl tool imbedded. Put the spare on the front and drove home with air hissin out of the rear for 1 1/2 miles.
Called Discount Tire, told them my situation. The AT +II's were discontinued, none in the state in inventory, but they had 2 of the replacement models in the special order bin that they were holding for another customer. He asked if i needed them today, and i said i did (heading up to the mtns to cut down the griswold family Christmas tree on Sunday). The tech(matt) asked for a # to call me back and made a couple phone calls. Within a few mins, called me back and said come on down, he can have two more for the other customer this afternoon... I throw my wheels in my wifes car (putting two 33 inch tires in a 98 dodge avenger is a feat in itself....) Unload them at the shop, no offers were made to try to patch them (had 1 inch gashes right in the center of the tread, so patching was not an option), and they look at my receipts. I showed them my souvenir (the stihl tool) that i pulled from the rear tire, and they said, no problem, we'll take care of you.
I was expecting a battle once i got inside over pro-rating for 20k out of the 50k warranty, or being charged for mounting/balancing, etc...Fortunately, that never happened. The replacements yokos are $166.00 each, but he offers to discount them to the original price so its an equal swap in their system. Certificates are cashed in for free replacements, and i get offered 2 new certificates for my replacement rubber for $25.00 each.(YES PLEASE!!!) another $3.00 for the disposal and environmental fees, and I have two brand new 285/75's on the front end for a grand total of $56.00 out the door. Totalling up all of the road hazard certs 88.00 for the original purchase and 50 for the latest 2, and i still havent reached the price of 1 of my original tires.
I am all kinda excited over this, and wish all customer service was like this. I highly recommend Discount Tire in High Point, and if youre nearby and go there, as for Matt (Asst Manager) or Steve. Both were cool dudes.
I'll try to post a pic of the impaler later.
