Howdy,
Went to check out that BJ75 I found awhile ago. I decided I'd take a short cut on logging roads. Happily enjoying the scenery and my Cruiser when it just shut off! WTF!!! Pulled over, started up again, drove off again.....seconds later shut off again. Repeate several more times. NOW Im gettin concerned. Trying to keep my head I do some trouble shooting - I knew I was getting fuel. Nobody around - logging done for now, 100 kms+ from town, minim al tools. Long story short - I had been blasting through some water holes and think I got some minute moisture on my vaccum switching valve. So it was shutting my motor off!!!!!
I remembered a discssion on here, about the VSV so I pulled off the hose that goes to the diaprgam thing that controls the shut off in the air intake and WOOHOO problem sloved. I thought for a 1/2 hr I was screwed and had visions of coming back today and have a burnt out shell left, or just as worse nothing at all! so CHEERS to this site and the knowledge collectively passing through!!!
I was wondering though, since I have an auto tranny (never had one before now), if i had gotten towed, would I have to disconnect my rear driveshaft inorder to not burn out my transmission?
Man its nice to see my mud covered 74 in my driveway. I almost felt sick to my stomak during this time yesterday - I couldnt believe my Cruiser had broke down. Lesson learned I guess. Now I guess Ill phone G&S for a new VSV ....is there no way to overhaul the existing one before I shell out $200
If there is a weak link on a BJ74 I'd say this is it. I will repostion the new one also and maybe waterproof it somehow.
Thnks again guys,
