I have a 1980 BJ40 and am in need of a crankshaft for a B engine.
Any responses are appreciated.

Hi mark. I have a 1980 2b engine. Turns out the head has cracks between the valves. Ran great, so the crank is fine, along with lots of other parts.

At my altitude I need a turbo, so I went ahead and found a 3b to play with. I thought about keeping the 2b since it’s original for my cruiser, but there is no turning back at this point. When I get I little more organized this spring, I’ll be posting up all this stuff in classifieds section.

Thank you for the reply. I know for a fact a B3 crankshaft will not work with a B engine but I’m not sure about a B2 crankshaft compatibility with a B engine.

I’m not sure either.

I will try to find out. If it is a go, are you willing to have it magnafluxed to make sure there are no cracks? That is the reason I am in search of. Mine is cracked at the #2 rod journal.

Well, I suppose that would depend on if it is worth it for me to take the whole rotating assembly apart and part out from there. I will try to get this stuff posted sooner rather than later in the for sale space. It may be sellable as a whole if someone had a usable head to put on it.

I've got a B motor that turned a bearing but after you yank the crank out, flux it, machine it, box it up and ship it.... which is no small thing for that weight....what does that add up to not including your time? Pretty expensive old crank unfortunately.

I think I mentioned it being an expensive route to go. Does that suffice as a point? It might be worth it to source another running engine.
