lookin for some help with the crankcase pulley on a 2F

my current 2F only has a single groove pulley and the 2F that i picked up this weekend (for Beer) has a double groove pulley...
so i am swapping the pulley so i can run power steering...

my question is... the harmonic balancer is attached to the pulley correct so swapping the harmonic balancer from another motor? will this cause any problems to the crank...

and the last question... before i pull out the calipers whats the size of the nut on the crank shaft..

Don't remember the size of the nut. But, swapping the single groove for the double groove pulley is no problem for the crank. While apart, replace the front main seal and if the seal surface on the damper pulley is damaged/worn put a speedi-sleeve on it.
 
I should put up a picture of the socket I made to get the nut off out of a piece of 2x2 square tube. A description will do for now though. Cut 2 corners of the 2x2 off then cut 2 flat sections of a new piece. Put the new piece on the nut and finagle it to fit. Then remove it an put the corner pieces into the cut out flats modifying the corners and flat sections as necessary to fit on the nut. Spot weld it together and use a hammer to snug it up tight then weld it all together. I then attached about 6' of the 2x2 at an L and it made taking the nut off real easy.
 
46mm is kind of hard to find. But an 1-13/16" socket isn't and it's the same size. Beware it's likely going to be a 3/4" drive so you will need an adapter unless you have 3/4" drive stuff already. Have fun getting these off, I usually need to use an impact, and I've heard from some that even that doesn't always work.

X2 on the standrad socket and the 3/4 " drive,
One of the best tools I have is the 3/4" dirve set with adapters from and to 1/2".
My question is ,
Is the nut used with 2 groove pulley different than the single groove pulley?
 
here is what i did ...

has a 1/2 inch drive socket banging around, size 22, took measurements down to a local hawk shop and picked up a 1 13/16 in one inch drive. fitted a steel shank between the 22 mm and the 1 onch drive with the grinder. put them together and have used it for about 18 years now on f engine crank pully nuts. the 2f nut should be the same as the f engine, but i am not sure, measure it or just buy the 42mm as suggested.

Problems getting the nut loose? Use your built in "impact" wrench. Place the socket, 3/4" breaker bar on the nut. VERY CAREFULLY set the breaker bar so that the direction of motor rotation will bring the bar in contact with the frame. You don't want more than about 1 to 2 inches of movement of the bar. Pull the coil wire, you DON'T want the motor starting. Make sure the socket/bar are propped/tied up in place so they stay in full contact with the pulley nut.

NOW---stand aside (way back!!) and bump the starter. The rotational force along with the end of the breaker bar hitting the frame will break the damper nut loose.

X2.. I did this with just a 15 or 18 inch adjustable spanner, whichever was the right length, cant remember..
 
right on... i was lookin for this kind of response.... so will try and find a 46mm or a 1 13/16... shouldnt be that hard to find...

so the harmonic balancer will be good then...

i have done the starter trick before on 22r and it does work good...
