They'll gladly replace your old, broken, Made in USA tool for a brand new tool made by the finest Communist Chinese slave labor.

They don't do that for their torque wrenches.

that's odd. I had them replace my old torque wrench - but it was the cheaper bar type, not the fancy click-set ones. (on mine, the guage was a little off because it had sat in a toolbox with something on top of it for months and months).

The kid at the counter gave me hell about it, said they didn't do torque wrenches, etc, then an older guy came over, made a few calls - but didn't get any answers - so we walked over, found a replacement, found on the packaging that it had the lifetime warranty and I walked out with a brand new one.

It's all in who you get at the store, I guess.

Did anyone else see that Boyd Coddington show when one of the worker bees took a torch to a craftsman wrench and bent it in half? After using it for his special purpose he took it back and told them that it just 'bent' while in use. They replaced it. (of course)

Sweet. Everyone knows those made in Communist China tools are much better. It's a matter of incentive. Here in the US, we have those old union guys who know they can't get fired for any reason, in China, they know if they take a break early they can be sent to the mobil death van. Who do you think has more incentive to make quality products? :flipoff2: :grinpimp:

'mobile death van' - Dude, WTF are you talking about?

Has Sears changed its policy?

I took back a set of pliers once that my dad used to cut through a hot wire one time (he forgot to pull the breaker). They didn't even ask why there was a hole burned in the pliers!

Replaced two ratchets this month alone. Both of them (1 1/2", 1 1/4") had the directon selector fall off when ratcheting in tight quarters. Over the past 5 years I've replaced the 1/2" drive 3 times. Mostly due to abuse(4' cheater pipes, etc). The 1/4" ratchet was really a surprise when it broke because I hardly ever use it. When I went to get that one replaced they didn't have any refurbs under the counter so the girl went to get a new one from the wall. When she came back w/ a "professional series" one and gave it to me, well, I didn't point out her mistake ;) :D

I've also replaced a few spark plug sockets over the years. They're very handy for deep well use, but tend to split in half when used on an impact. :whoops:

I think most tools these days come with a lifetime warrenty. Sears is pretty good, no questions asked. I'm always breaking stuff, I even took back a long screw driver that I ran over with a tracter, they didn't even care.

i've replaced two ratchets, one i got a new one and one they gave me refurb. they wouldn't do my torque wrench which sucks because the plastic lock collar is broken, so it doesn't stay where you set it

I've even got a hose from sears with a lifetime warranty, kinda pricy but its the last hose I'll ever buy.
