Hi Guys I need some help.
Some mates drove my car up to where I live for me (Cape York Australia) and overheated it and blew a head gasket. Upon taking the head off I see the compression chambers on the bottom of the head have some serious cracks in them. Do the cracks matter or do they not matter, seems everyone I ask has a different opinion. I will replace them if it matters.
Thanks
Lachlan

Yes, the cracks matter...

Which engine are you running?

You have not given much in the way or details: year, model, engine, etc.

Sorry mate its a bj70 1985 with a 3b engine. According to the factory service manual replacing the compression chambers is fairly simple so I guess Ill have a go. Would these cracks contribute to the loss of compression Ive got?
Thanks for your help.

It's not hard to do, though you might need to surface the head after they go in depending on the protrusion.

Give Neil at Roodogs 4WD Spares in Melbourne a call and he'll get you set up with the right parts.

The cracks do not affect compression, but if the pre-cups break up and fall into the engine, it's disastrous.
