Cracked the cat`

So a bolt came off my exhaust, or the metal part that protects that cat and now the metal armor has been hitting against the cat and has finally cracked it. What does the exhaust leak do to my truck? Should I not drive it until I fix it like I have been doing or is it alright to drive, meaning it won't hurt the car.
