John, thanks for that info. If you could update me later in the week on if they get much snow up there, that would be great. I heard they expect 6-8" of snow.
Thanks,
Dave

Remind me Thurs or Fri & I will be glad to.

The storm is expected more so to the north in Mono County, but at that elevation it could very well effect Coyote here in Inyo County. Will try to give you updated info as best as I can...remind me.

Thanks
John

Hello all.. I am new to this forum. I actually signed up so I could reply to this thread hoping to get some info. I used to have a Tacoma and have been up to Coyote Flatts many times. Like to take the tail all the way back and hike down to fish Green Lake. Since I am here, is there any fish in Funnel Lake?

I have a rhino and my dad and some friends have 4wd quads now. I always wondered if there was a trail from Big Pine to Coyote Flats. Reading this thread answers my question. I am still wondering if it is doable in UTV's/quads? Is there a place that we can safely park our tow vehicles and not have to worry about them for a couple of days?

Any info would be greatly appreciated

-Mike

Welcome to mud.

As for fish in Funnel lake, there were 2 years ago, we talked to 2 guys who were having a pretty good day. Now, who knows, but I would say yes.

As for quads and sideXside's going down to Big Pine, it's rocky, steep, tight turns and narrow. We do it on bikes and I have seen some 4X4's do it, so I would say yes.

Thanks for the info. It is much appreciated. I don't mind the challenge(not sure about the rest of my group) if it is doable then I want to try it. Any info as to where the trail starts in Big Pine and is it safe to leave tow rigs?

Hey John, I got your PM's but did not know it as I didn't get an email notification but I did get one for a reply to this thread. I appreciate all the info you gave me. I may take a drive up there by myself to get an idea of the area then hopefully get my group up there later in May to try out the trail. If all else fails then we will go from Bishop again. If you happen to go through it before I make it up there, please post your results. Can I get the maps you speak of from a Forestry Station in Big Pine?

Thanks again, Mike

Mike,

Ok good, you did get my PM's then.

Yes, I will update info after my next trip up there, but that may be 30-60 days.

Regarding the maps, you can get them at the FS in Bishop, White Mnt. Station. They had a little snag getting them out to the individual FS locations. One of our 4x club members is a FS employee & they think they have solved the problem.

These new maps (there are 2, try to get them both) will be very helpful to you. If you have any problems getting them, contact me again & I will let you borrow mine.

Good luck,
John
