I am thinking of a new paint job on my 77 FJ40. It looks good is very solid and straight metal wise there is of course the normal light rust around the edges where to hard top contacts and a few other places. It had a basterdized color color change cut every corner paint job from the POS previous owner. It looks great from 10 feet but since they didnt sand at all its flaking off in many places they didnt even remove the weatherstrip or wait until it was dry to shut the doors.:mad::mad: So the main thing is to do it right I guess it has to be taken totally apart and down to bare metal I assume. What is the cost range I should expect. Any suggestions of a paint shop in or near Fort Worth also.I want to start saving now and do it 100% right and once. Thanks PG

I'm picking up my rig today (was supposed to be ready thurs but..) had it taken down to the rolling frame. Sand blasted everything, treated metal, primed, painted oem yellow and put back together. New door/ window rubber, seals, and felt. New emblems. Rusty front door bottoms cut off and replaced/ repaired. Cost?? Bought all Toyota stuff and took it over there cuz I did not want aftermarket short cuts or inferior parts. (I don't trust them with that) spent about 2500 at Toyota and paid the body guys 7500 it's been just unde 3 mo. The guys who did the work are amazing they love what they do they gave me a flat price and said they would not nickel and dime me. The fee is the total fee what ever it takes 7500!! I sad he'll yeh I'm in. Total I go over there every week and there was always progress (no sitting collecting dust) it is the best refurbish I have ever seen. Inside and out it looks like new. Paint is perfect.. I mean perfect! Every last detail. If I were you I'd spend 150 bucks on a flight and come see this fj40 and see these guys at there shop. Great work, very fair price, super easy going crew, got the job done in good time.

Sounds great thanks for the post I think some pictures of your rig are in order! PG

I have not really tried yet too many other expenses right now.
Like a new 2011 LandCrusier! Do you have a suggestion? Thanks PG

Just came back this afternoon from 2 estimates on my '85 FJ60. First was $5000 for original color paint on truck, door jams, windows, all mouldings and chrome removed and reinstalled and rusted rear xmember replaced. Am waiting for the second estimate which will include painting engine compartment as well. Could get it done for 1K from Maaco, but you get what you pay for.
