Doing radiator/thermo/tensioner/puley replacement today and discovered that cooling fan pully is making a slight grindy noise unlike every other pulley. Is it ok or replace?

Meaning the bearing that the cooling fan shaft turns on? I assume spinning the fan with the belt off.

There should be no grinding anywhere in that system. I’m actually about to replace the fan support bearing as PM but as far as I know mine isn’t making noise yet at 150k.

Also if it is actually grinding do this job sooner rather than later. That is a bearing you do not want to fail or seize up. Likely to take out the serp belt and flop everywhere in the engine bay causing other damage.. it’s possible for the fan to get pulled into the radiator if the bearing completely lets go..

Yes slight noise with the everything off. I got 126K miles. Looks like its just bolt on so should be easy. I have found AISIN FBT-014 on amazon cheaper then at toyota parts deal. Just will have to wait.

also they pulley that goes over the bracket has a streak of black dirt on the outer rim instead of a shine surface. It wont come off. I guess replace too?

That might be rubber from the back of the belt. As long as it’s smooth and doesn’t seem like it’ll damage the belt I’d probably just reuse it. But your call.

How hard have you tried to remove it? Tried scraping or filing?

A clear picture would help a lot.

I think I paid about $130 for my OEM fan support bearing from the site I use and it looks nearly identical to the part you listed.

that stuff is bulgy and doesnt come off. It must be stupid me using toyota belt conditioner total bs

I bet that would come off with a fine pitch file. Or even a razor blade. Not that it should be a problem even if it is left in place.

I’ve never felt a need for belt conditioner on serpentine belt systems. If the belt is slipping it’s either time for a new belt or tensioner, or to find a deeper problem with the system.
