I put in a new coolant temp sensor about a week ago and within a few days started getting the typical sensor code. I figured the sensor must be a bad unit and bought a replacement under warranty. Boy was it a bad unit! It is broken off so that no easy access to remove it. Where the threads are broke off from where the socket head is. What is the best way to attack it? Should I drill and try to reverse it out? Should I try to put a dent in it and use a flat head to unscrew it?? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

A picture might help so we can actually see the damage? Not a common problem so a visual would help.

I would drill it with a reverse drill bit , keep the drill level and slow, start small drill bit then go bigger , did you man tight the sensor in? Is it the sensor for gauge or ecu? If gauge leave it and do new water temp gauge that actually till ya the numbers. How did the head break off? You have to use deep socket maybe you cracked it on install?

Put grease on drill bit to catch metal fillings and don't drill all the way through so nothing falls into block if you can

Is this the one in the middle of the head with 2hose barbs on it?

Sorry for the delay. It actually came out pretty simple. The brass nipple that actually threads in is hollow for the wires and a small flathead screwdriver turned it out with a little patience. Must have over-tightened on install...
