Greetings,

I recently did a cooling system maintance. PHH, thermostat, and flush. After the flush and draining both the radiater and block completely, went to fill back up. During fill with engine running at operating temerature and with heaters running, total the system would take including resivoir was about 12-1/2 quarts.

I recall manual states capacity at 15 quarts. Is this normal, or did I miss something here?

Thanks,

Steve

You can't get all the water out of the hoses and heater cores (front and rear).

The thing I woundered was if the overflow resivore was included in the capacity???

I can't recall the numbers, but years ago when I first filled/flushed I found there was still some water in the system that precludes actually adding the full capacity. Just make sure it's clean water (effective flush) and then pour in 1 gallon of distilled, one gallon of pure coolant, then mix 50/50 and use this until the system's full and you'll be correct.

I just drained mine and added fresh water twice, only get about two gallons out each time. Hopefully it'll start draining clear after the next cycle or two.
