I have some land in that area as well, and bears are becoming a real nuisance, almost to the point of being dangerous. When I was a kid bears were unheard of in that area. Never even saw sign, much less one in the wild. Now it's guaranteed that you see one on our place. Every single time I go for an overnight trip I see a bear. And they are less and less intimidated by humans. So much so that I won't step foot outside the camp without a sidearm. Last year a buddy and I had to stay in a box stand for 2 hours after dark because a mother and two cubs were bedded down under us. I didn't want to risk getting between them if we got down.
We are lobbying the DWF in LA for a landowners hunting permit but so far have had no success.
