DNP, that's right. I did the fall run twice while in Law School in that area of the country. A couple of times the guide said: "Yeah, if you fall out of the boat here, you will die." He was not kidding... not even a little bit.

Man, I'd love to go back.

The Gauley is an AWESOME river! If you liked it today, Go back in September - October for the fall Summerville Dam release (preferably on the "Bridge Day" weekend)....it's a whole other level of excitement! The river is completely transformed for those 6 weeks......

A common misconception that I knew nothing about until today.

The reason the "Fall" Gauley is so popular is that it is consistent flow at 2800 cfs plus whatever might come in at Meadow River

Summer Gauley can be 400 cfs (ducky's) or 3000 cfs plus whatever is coming out of Meadow.

Today, we were at 2500 cfs and had another 500 coming is at Meadow so it was a bit above Fall flow.

The guide I had was a lady that has been running this river for 28 years as a guide. She put us in every nasty spot she could find. It. Was. Intense.

Ive done some pretty big water in my life and there is nothing I have ever seen that compares to this in the number of rapids back to back.

Best thing? 3 rafts in our group and we saw 2 other people on kayaks.

We got so every time we would go into a rapid our guide would tell us where to aim knowing we were likely going to swim it. Like you there were a couple she said the same thing. "We do NOT need to take a swim on this one" then she told us about how a Navy Seal drown pinned against a rock a few week prior to that. Would love to go back.

Do it! Can't wait to see what you name the thread!

I didn't know you could.... now I definitely have to go back!!

Shush I'm Watching a few hunded Army trucks working their way across Alabama on this day before the 4th. Makes me proud.

I'm guessing they are coming out of Shelby. At least it's not 100 degrees.

2 big Alabama units leaving Shelby. Big cav unit from TN coming in

I saw them too headed north on 59. Pretty cool to see the BN sized units move.

Saw a bunch of s*** broken on the side if the road

Other than 20 mile check rides none of it gets driven. Every piece of rubber dries out and leaks like crazy.

We call it "good recovery training" for our wreckers/ mechanics anytime we move.

I talked my BC into leaving half my rolling stock at home station and my motor seargeant thought I was a god.
