Well, I've found a gem of an HZJ77 with new paint no rust in the usual spots and a bunch of other goodies on my things to have list but my wife is really fighting against this one. It has 120K on it and is still hovering around the $23K (converting from yen to dollars). When I picked up my KZJ78 for $10K or so she was fine with that but she can't understand the difference between the KZ and the HZ. Trust me....I've tried all the analogies.

Surely, some of you have had this same dilemma with your spouse... so any advice in how to successfully steer her in the right direction might be helpful.

At this rate I might have to settle on a v6 Hilux Surf....:crybaby: or heaven forbid...a Pajero.:wrench::wrench:

You will pay for the HZJ77. Trust me your price range seems to be correct if your after a clean one with a 5 speed and lockers. Do know you will pay more than it might be worth through a dealer.

What are the specs on it?

Your essentially comparing a light duty land cruiser to a heavier duty one. There are a whole bunch of differences.

Got a link of it on goo-net?

Yes, I know it's within range of everything listed on Goo or Carsensor. I've been searching and doing my homework for quite some time now. This one hasn't made it to Goo but it's at the Hamamatsu Flex LandCruiser outlet. Flex's prices tend to be on the high side but my wife has already dealed them down quite a bit today to the tune of $2~3K off.
I like the mud beige actually and am partial to narrow bodies. And for a '93 it's pretty clean. I would prefer a 5 speed though. Actually, I went there looking at the one PZJ77 which is immaculate but then it is a PZJ. If I know I could rely on getting parts both here and back in Canada (I'm taking a LC back) I'd buy the PZJ.

Here's the link to the flex site... http://www.flexnet.co.jp/detail/kn/3014631823/

And the PZJ........ http://www.flexnet.co.jp/detail/shop/lancru-hamamatsu/no/4095169728/

Also, in Japan it's really a chore to NOT go through a dealership of some kind. I did a direct sale of a van to some Egyptian dude years ago and it was a nightmare I vowed I would never do again.... And, there seems to be a lot of cruisers in Hokkaido and Kyushu.....and I'm somewhere right in the middle so not a lot of chances to go for a first hand look.

What I wouldn't give ( short of divorce ) to own either of those Cruisers. ( especially the first one ) :)

Hmm, this is a dillemma. Usually, the wives are right, which begs the question, what aren't you telling us? :D Surely, she is thinking of something that we're not privy too. Are you too emotionally vested whereas she is thinking with a clear head? I'm ducking for cover.....

Haha.....Maybe I'd better to be spending more time oiling the gears under the sheets than under the truck. ;)

No, she just wants a shiny blingy Escalade .... not a brown used Toyota..

They have Escalades in Japan? Holy moly

Maybe your wife has a point, how much better is the HZJ77 going to be for $22K over the $10K KZJ78?
All you are getting is a couple of HP ,a longer nose and heavier fuel bill.
Keep what you have and keep the money in the bank.

Escalade sounds ok,from Cadilacs own site ;)

The 2013 Cadillac Escalade SUV is the most acclaimed luxury SUV ever, combining luxury, technology and performance not found in other luxury SUVs.

I was thinking in the long run Rosco but you are right and when it comes down to it she is right.....except about the Escalade..;) The KZJ78 I have now has long paid for itself and is in good shape and running great. It needs shocks and springs quite badly and at 220K on the odometer I was thinking it's kind of a waste to upgrade the suspension and would be better rolling that cash into a different beefier truck. Tough call I guess.

Im thinking about a 105 series;) The legroom and drivers seat is heaven compared to a 7* series.

My position would be that if you cant have the HZJ77 ,we are keeping the KZJ78.
Definitly no Escalade.

To be honest ,I wish I had of kept my rust free FJ73 with the new 1HZ engine, rebuilt gearbox,t/case and front and rear rebuilt diffs.
For $3000 ,I could have had it painted. The interior was good and all the suspension and steering had been refurbished in the last 4-5 years before I sold it.
It had barely a sqeak or rattle anywhere.

I get all faint when I see a MWB going down the street.

Sadly 23K would be a steal if that truck was in the U.S.
I wouldn't even ask my wife ( as the old saying goes ..... it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. :) )

Just put Escalade badges on the 77 and maybe she won't notice.
