Am being sent overseas and have to put my LX-450 into storage. Am already planning an oil change, removing the battery, stuffing intake and exhaust. Any other things I should think of? Should I put it on jack stands or just wood below the wheels? Thanks in advance.

I'd put it on jackstands under each axle. (4 total jackstands...)

Fuel stabilizer- might look into that.

x2 on the fuel stabilizer.

If you are going to be going a long time there is a "fogging oil" you can use in your intake to keep rust and oxidation at bay. Put it up on jack stands and air down the tires to a fairly low pressure. Keep it out of the sun if possible.

x3 reference the fuel stabilizer and fill up the tank prior to storage. You should consider buying a cover if stored outside , even under a carport. I bought a good one from SOR .Lots of crud will collect in the door jams....etc. If possible have someone start it up twice a month . I dont know how to protect the sidewalls from dry-rotting. Perhaps someone else could advise?

Indoor or outdoor storage? You have less to worry about indoors especially if you are located in a rainy state. If you are storing outdoors, I would buy a carport.

Thanks for the great answers! It is going to be stored in my mother-in-laws garage. Wasn't sure if I should have her start it every so often or just take the battery out and lay it up. She's pretty responsible, so she probably wouldn't mind starting it.

I would have it started and even driven around until the engine and exhaust gets good and hot once or twice a month.

There have been several times in the past two years that I have not started mine for a month or two at a time. She sounds HORRIBLE when I start her up for about 5-20 seconds and the truck vibrates like you can tell it's struggling. Its a bad almost knocking sound that stops after the fluids circulate. Once the fluids are flowing it sounds perfectly normal. It doesn't help that its usually pretty cold here in the winter. As long as I run the engine on a regular basis it never sounds like this.

How long?

Damn man, i'd say 3 years definately qualifies for "long-term" storage!
No way i would have my 80 sit still for 3 years. Your best bet is to have someone responsible start it at least once a month and be aware of how to charge your battery as it will slowly die.

Ideally someone you trust should just drive the truck once or twice a month to get everything up to operating temp, to keep everything lubed and to maintain charge in your battery/s. I would also ensure the heater valve is cycled so that the whole cooling system is circulated and the A/C is used to stop the seals drying out. Good luck.

X2
either drive it for at least a half an hour once a month ( and keep up with fluid levels etc) or drain the gas tank And coolant at least
but wait for some more info from the experts before you decide what to do

3 years is a long time and a lot can happen. I would put it away in a fashion that does NOT need someone to drive it monthly.

Maybe obvious but you want to store the wheels flat.
