just got through reading a whole bunch of posts about front axel rebuilds, didn't mention not to reuse them.

Reuse them but be generous with the anti-sieze compound.

Cone washers are totally re-ueseable. If you want to buy new ones, go ahead... after you hear how much they cost, you'll reconsider ;)

yup, re-use them, if you need new ones get them from suzuki. same thing but about $3ea instead of $5. take an old one in to show them it will make the whole process alot faster instead of trying to explain what you want...

Always check around the Toyota trucks and Zukes at Pick & Pull. A lot of people pull the steering arms/knuckles and leave the cone washers laying on the ground.

Just wondering where exactly you use anti seize on the cones?

I do the anti-sieze ALL OVER!! Cone washers are a pain to get off. I like the copper anti-sieze best but I've used both copper and aluminum.

Well unfortunaltely I roughed up a few of them on the knuckles I took apart over the weekend before I got the hang out of taking them out. A few if them are nicked pretty good on top. Took a file and smoothen the nicks back down, but not sure these are re-usable. A few nicks on the top probably not that bad. Does the cone washer also act a seal to keep grease from ozzing out?

Nope, they are not a grease seal. As long as the cone faces are not damaged they should be reusable.

I have not yet taken apart the original knuckles on the 40 yet, only on the doner mini truck. Are either of the cone washers (steering arm or hub) usuable on the mini knuckle. I know the taper on the mini truck steering arms are larger, so I'm guessing the cone washer on the stock 40's must be a little smaller.

small pattern knuckles use 10mm studs, and large pattern uses 11mm studs... the cone washers will not interchange.
hth, carl
