Sounds like your wife and I drive the same way! She needs a Miata! I've never spun mine although I have done some (unintentional ;) ) sideways sliding. You just can't help yourself in those little cars-they are too much fun to drive fast!

Banking and fast small cars - you have a lot in common!

She has a A4 S line Quattro right now, it's pretty hard to get sideways unless you are Walter Rohrl:

My kid sister used to race out there a lot since her ex is an instructor. They raced BMWs and Miatas. She would go over to Rush Hour and drop the jaws of all of the guys all while wearing her pink helmet and gloves.

That. Is. Awesome!

That is what I have been telling my wife for years!

Actually, a very smart thing to do for anyone. Even more so on motorcycles.

Tell her I'll go with her! Been wanting to do this for a while but can't take my car as it doesn't have a roll bar.

Been to vir driving training in an automatic 3 series BMW. It was full course and incredible. Learned a lot.

I always thought onsc needed a club race car we could use at vir and pass around. Like an old 3 series BMW from 1986.

Went to the American Le Mans race there this past fall. Not very busy so you has full pit access. Talked to drivers. They were letting my daughter sit in the race cars. It was fun.

Two words:

Ariel Atom.

I am planning to participate in that experience at VIR in late 2013 or early 2014. Depends on implementation schedules at work.

Super easy to bolt in a cage and put in some Schrothe belts!

I will tell her, it would be a lot of fun.

I want to do the ariel atom thing as well. Heard it was a blast.

I've seen one of those on the show room floor at TLC Land Cruiser's in Van Nuys right next to an Icon on display. Super cool. They are a dealer for those as well. They asked me if I needed any help as I was looking around at the few trucks on display. I polity told them that I did not want to waste their time as I was not a customer in any way shape or form and that I was only there to observe my religion and had made a pilgrimage there to do so. The guy laughed out loud and took me on full tour of the place. Nice people!

Jeez that Ariel experience is pricey. Although its not VIR, but still fun, at Carolina Motorsports park you can sign up your own car to drive around with an instructor during any open track day for about $250. No need for roll cages or fire suits. You get to do four or five 15-20min sessions and basically run your car to the max. My boss took his Porsche out the first day we were there and the last time we ran a mini cooper. Another guy with us took his bone stock RX-8 out. If you have a minimal racing license you can drive the sessions without an instructor with you.

I was at a "club day" at VIR last summer, they had one of the Ariel Atom experiences going on the same afternoon. Pretty crazy little car, scary fast but I'd rather put that kind of money into something one could race without so many restrictions.

I grew up near Laguna Seca and Sears Point Raceways and have been lucky enough to have driven both course in a car and motorcycle, would love to get a few laps at VIR, someday...

Laguna Seca is the best track i've ever been to, got to do a lap around it one time, there is nothing on this planet like that corkscrew turn..... one of a kind for sure.

Kind of sad I never made it to road Atlanta, while I was over on this coast.

For a track day car that I could also use in the real world i'd build an ultima GTR.... your imagination is the limit to what that car can do. And the build your own kit is only around 30k or something like that.

Road Atlanta is a fun one. Have not been on it in years. There is a school there, forget who, it is higher than the atom experience.

Yeah I think its the whole "Atlanta" thing that has kept me away. I avoid that city like everyone there has the plague. :)

I may not make it down there till much later in the future now as we may be moving at the end of the year. :frown:

My virgin track experience was at Road ATL in the middle of a race and holy crap that was exciting. We raced the miata in the chump car series. Which, by the way, will be at the Charlotte Motor Speedway at the end of June. I believe we'll be racing the nissan 240 this time. The racing school in ATL is the Skip Barber school which, if I understand correctly, is how you obtain your licensing to race SCCA events and run your own car solo at various track days. Road ATL is way out in the countryside and nothing even suggests that your near the city other than the name on the sign.

Corrected it for 'ya :D

I went several times in the early 90s when the SCCA National Runoffs were there. Used to be really out in the sticks, but now, Atlanta and Charlotte meet in Greenville, SC

We did scca stuff at turner field in Atlanta. The charlotte thing sounds fun, and I loves the 240sx. Let me know the date, and if spectators are welcome. I would not mind coming out for that.

Just confirmed we are signed up to race. We're gonna test the 240 prior but our backup miata is ready to roll. June 22 at Charlotte Speedway running the infield road course is what I understand. Spectators are welcome. At ATL there was no entry fee to spectate but at the last Lemons race we participated in there was an entry fee. I think I'll start a new thread for this soon cause I believe we are now straying into a completely different discussion here. So to keep on point, I am attending the Concourse this weekend.
