You can try getting an external USB enclosure and dropping the hard drive in it to see if it will spin up that way. If not, you can try to put it in the freezer overnight and then try again. Sometimes freezing it will give you a couple more spins, enough to get data off.
 
Sounds interesting but this is as far from my level of comfort as it gets. For the most part Im willing and capable of doing a lot but when it comes to computer issues Im willing to pay someone with experience to avoid the chance of me making it worst.
 
As long as the drive is not physically damaged I can take a look at it and more than likely recover the data.

I have a magical "connect ANY hard drive to a USB port and read the data" thingamajig. As long as the drive spins up, regardless whether IDE or SATA. I've used it dozens of times.
 
Trick here is to NOT write anything at all to the disk ... most folk try loading "recovery" software onto the disk and that causes more harm than good. Hope it all worked out Phil.

I've recovered RAID arrays after the controller scrambled things ... drives that others failed on - even intermittent thermal issues ... drives that hammer ... etc. But it really just comes down to luck. I
