I need to buy a compressor in the next few days and I'm trying to find a quality one that will last me a few years. I have a torchmate on it's way and need a good compressor to run it off, and also would like to be able to run air tools. Noise is a bit of a concern as it's going to have to be inside the shop with me while I'm cutting, wanted to put it outside but it just is going to be a pain to do I think.

The min requirements for the hypertherm 65 are 6.5 @ 85 PSI. I'd like to go a bit above the min to make sure it's OK with longer cuts and so on. Also, again want to run air tools.

Price.. under 1K. I am more concerned with getting a good one that will last then saving a few bucks now.

I have a Husky (Home Depot) 240V 80 gal that I bought used. It has a 2 stage comp and does it's job well.

It will easily give you all the air you need.

Yeah, it's noisy.

I have an Industrial Air 60 gallon in my shop in WY. Puts out 11+ CFM @90PSI. Had mine for over 4 years with no problems at all. Single phase/Twin Cylinder. I have also had this hooked up to a TD 81 and 102 @ 7.7 CFM/90psi.. no problem cutting longer run times, 60 is enough volume for me. I've run plasma cutters, German hacksaw, smaller jack hammer, hand air tools, paint guns, hydrotested piping spools and air up every bicycle tire and ball in the neighborhood for the kiddos... HA!

I have a PowerMax 65 and 45 now. Runs my 45 no problem (have the Powermax 65 in TX with me now running off an IA 20gallon that puts out 7.0CFM, It is ok for hand cuts on smaller projects.. NOT FOR CNC LONG CUT TIMES.., NOT ENOUGH VOLUME!!

Quincy QT 2-stage 220v 60-gallon 17.2cfm @90psi here. Sold all of my big wood and metal tools apart of a recent move to another state...but kept my Quincy where it lives and breathes in our current rental house. Cry once for the stuff you'll keep and really use. Nuff said.
