Composite propane cylinders?

Nope....but I just got my CO2 tank filled this week and while there I noticed a composite tank...it wasn't filled with propane...but the guy said they have been around awhile and are $$$. Sorry Ken...no more info than that :rolleyes:.
 
The composite forklift propane tanks tend to crack easily in a rockcrawling rig..
 
We have composit O2 tanks in the trama packs we use at world cup ski races. We try not to abuse them but that said, they were out on the ski hill all day last week during -20C temps. They are almost weightless, which is important when they are in a backpack.
 
This looks like a solid deal and I think by the end of the day one will be on its way to my door.

It will be interesting if that US manf. gets the shaft .
The 2 peice design is kinda sketchy , but I thought for a low pressure (LPG) it might work.

No problem. Better to have a metal tank and not worry about than have a poorly manufactured composite tank and risk your life.
 
Just received the cylinder , seriously light looks like a nice package.

It was kinda funny the guy @ the propane place that I took it to get filled (Ace hardware) grabbed it and kinda checked it out, asked me some Questions , and proceeded to call the manager.
He stated he wasn't comfortable filling it . :rolleyes:
Its sorta cool looking @ the liquid sloshing around.

I looked into those for my trailer build and they are cool units.

Advantages:

1. lighter than steel.
2. You can see how much LPG is left.
3. Look cool.

Disadvantages:
1. "felt" cheap and flimsy.
2. Mounting one on a vehicle would be a unique task.
3. A lot of $ for the benifits.

I love the idea of know how much is left though!

On a related note - anybody know where I can get a small (1-2 gal) propane tank? Needs to be the type that discharges liquid like a forklift tank and not the vapor BBQ style.
 
Bumping this old girl. Need to get my 20# steel tank filled and stumbled across these. Any experience to share? I was debating on buying a steel 5# tank just to save the space and weight.
Any input is appreciated.

Following...been eyeing the composite one for years. Early on there was questions circling refilling stations not being aware of their ratings. Then dropped off the radar.
 
If its weight savings your after Ive had an aluminum tank for years and its great. Cant see the fuel left in it though like you can with the composite but its damn light and durable.
 
I'd first call the refill stations that you think you will be using and ask if they will actually refill the tank you think about. If no, or we don't know, I'd think twice about it.

Yeah, I know. I’ll probably m just keep the one I already have. Ive already invested enough in diesel having this one shipped.
