Probably the better comparison would be the new Bronco vs buying and sprucing up and old 80 series. That nifty 7 speed manual in the Bronco is tempting to me.
Been looking at the Bronco 2-door with a friend. Some of the specs were interesting in comparison to the 200-series, especially the more comparable 4-door.
2-door is definitely smaller. But the 4-door Bronco is not necessarily smaller in key ways and has a longer wheelbase than the LC, 116.1" vs 112.2" respectively. The body lines on the Bronco are smaller and more inset to your point, including length. Some dimensions actually favor the 200-series. I'll also say the 200-series, without factory enthusiast trims would be "base", as any upgrades would take it to the next level, perhaps easily challenging the Bronco factory specials. The dramatic curb weight differences speaks to how much stronger bones are on the cruiser. Here's some specs.

Thanks! Not a manual, this is a First Edition so it has pretty much every option and only comes with the 10 speed and 2.7L. I just turned 5,000 miles and haven't had any real issues yet. There's a few small quality issues I fixed myself dealing with the top and the rear tailgate.
You can only get it with the small engine.

These will ultimately start stacking up at dealers like cordwood. It may take a couple of years, but the if you don't HAVE to buy a new car - now is not the time. Ten grand over sticker (what many dealerships are asking) on a car that rolls off a line in Michigan (not that there's anything wring with that), seems like it misses one of the main the points of buying a high-volume domestic vehicle. Buying one at a nice discount to sticker makes for a much more appealing acquisition.
Having said that, I am surprised by how long this global chip shortage is lingering.

My dealer is MSRP, there's some good ones still out there... I could've sold it for 10k-30k over MSRP that night, but I wasn't interested.

I have a 4 door Wildtrak on order. I won’t have to pay a penny over MSRP. It will be $65,000 +/- in Arctic Pesos, whereas a 200 series here is $90,000 for a 2017 with 44,000 on the clock. It’s not even remotely the same vehicle, and frankly, it’s stupid to try and compare the two. The closest thing Toyota has (had) to compare to the Bronco is the defunct turd known as the “FJ” Cruzer. The Bronco is light years better than that. I have no delusions that the Bronco will be a Toyota, but hey, I need the tax write off so the lease on the Bronco will be perfect. Factory 35s, convertible, twin turbo V6 (think 300 LC) and double locked for $65k CDN? I’m in.

Financing and stimulus programs are tightening up though. At a certain point they'll just price themselves out of a sale. And despite what some say, there is elasticity in demand for new and pre-owned cars.
In a way, the best cure for high car prices are higher car prices.
