Newest Car and Driver has a comparison report with the H3, FJ, Grand Cherokee, and Xterra. They ranked them in that order (H3 last, Xterra best).

They faulted the rear seat and rear doors, complained that the long travel suspension that was so good off-road wasn't good on road. Overall I'd take away from their report that it did very well off-road, but wasn't car like enough for them on road (which is fine for our crowd).

These tests certainly are geared more toward what the typical user is looking for.

Like you alluded, not too many typical users here :)

It's hard to take their stuff on four wheeling the least bit seriously, I remember when the H3 (maybe H2) was new and they took it out on one of the "most hardcore" trails in az.

I'd be amazed to see it on a real trail in az :grinpimp:.

Is the comparison in the pulp rag or online? I've been to the website but I get distracted by the Porsche....

It is in the pulp rag that just arrived at my house yesterday (March 1st). I haven't checked online. I know what you mean by the Porsche being a little distracting. The new yellow 911 Turbo on the cover of last months issue is a thing of beauty. Drool.
