Club members seem to use CB4 consistently, and I wanted to add other frequencies to my Bearcat scanner. What HAM frequencies are in use these days? Is there an FRS channel (and Sub-channel) that club members prefer? Thanks,

I highly recommend people become familiar enough with their radios so they can tune another simplex channel easily. 146.46 is very popular. In Death Valley there were at least 3 groups using it. Lots of times folks want to carry on long conversations and you can't get a word in. Soo...I have a couple of alternates that I use and trips I lead we never use 146.46. Just food for thought.

From one of the lists I have:

Note that the "National Simplex Frequencies in RED are also know as the Calling Frequency. Monitor it often and make your calls there but move to another simplex frequency if possible to keep it open for use by others wishing to make simplex contacts.

I like the idea. Could always agree on a couple of alternates ahead of time and switch over to alt 1 /alt 2 (without announcing the frequency) to keep it kinda private. Just an idea.

Speaking of Death Valley, I guess it's not a huge surprise given the remoteness, but there are NO repeaters in the area that I know of.

Not the only place this happens. It's fairly common. Folks need to get licensed! and learn how to use their radios. 146.46 is great but it needs to be shared and like all of the published frequencies should be used as a way to make contact (like when trying to find someone in a common area) but then that conversation should be moved to another frequency. Of course the most comical are those that think they own a frequency and get mad one someone else is on it.

Not knowing much about HAM licensing; are there common side frequencies that the club uses? I'd like to program tose ahead of time as well. The nature of my BearCat scanner is that it's far easier to pre-program many frequencies than to program one in the field.

Thanks for the discourse on this, guys.

My main alternate is 146.535 here's a list of other simplex frequencies that don't interfere with repeaters.
