So far I am loving my LC. I do have a couple if issues worth researching.

1. Driveline clunk. I've read the threads and believe I might have it. 2008 LC. Just how loud is it? I can feel it and hear a muffled "clunk" at the rear (not very loud). It feels like the rear end. I've got the TSB.

2. Air brakes. When brakes depressed I get a hissing sound. What is this? What is the fix?

3. i will get the XM put in. Any idea how much to pay for this?

Thanks ya'll. :wrench:

1) My clunk did not make a sound. You can feel it. If you can feel yours, it's there and the TSB will take care of it.

2) That noise you hear is normal. It's not loud is it? It's the hydraulic cylinders doing their thing. Have the dealership listen to it, but most likely it's normal.

3) No idea about the XM, but you can do it yourself if you want and are capable. The module toyota uses is made by VAIS and you can find them on ebay for cheaper than they charge. I think you are looking at about 500 for the unit and 150-200 for the install. Not too sure though, so don't take my word for it.

The VAIS 2nd gen XM unit is the SL2xmt.

I've got the clunk for sure. I will make sure they commit to repairing it per the tsb prior to having them touch it. If you could tell me what components they will replace I will mark them to ensure they get replaced.

It's funny how on that link you gave the newer xm module loses an aux input.

Thanks, btw. I really appreciate it.

Jonesky contact Toyota USA and give them your Vin number before taking it to the dealer. This should eliminate any issues with the Dealer saying they are not aware of the TSB, as some have expierenced. Also make sure you have the exact TSB number for them to look up. Best of luck.

You don't need the aux input as all newer yotas have the aux input already, i believe (your lc does)

x2. With the VIN they can tell you if it has been done or not. The part that gets replaced is the entire drive shaft. Spray paint it red if you want to or something. There have been a few on these boards who have just gotten theirs re-lubed, which will not solve the problem...just a bandaid fix.

So far I have about 8000 miles on my new shaft and its flawless. I don't think anyone who had the shaft replaced has had a reoccurring issue.

My dealer said they replaced the drive shaft but the clunk came back and had to take it in again. I was told that the shaft was replaced but had not been lubed so they just lubed. So far its been better but I am starting to feel an occasional clunk again but it feels a bit different so maybe something unrelated. When they replace the drive shaft make sure that they lube it also, not just replace it.

OK, I dropped off my LC and they test drove it without me and could not duplicate and the Service rep, (some non mech guy) could not find the TSB. He called and volunteered to have me drive with a "Master Tech." Don't know just why he couldn't find the TSB unless he never looked for it or is a liar.

So I went down there and got in it with a "Master Tech" and we didn't even get out of the bay and he said he heard it. Gave him my iPhone with a web page displaying the TSB numbers and he came back with the TSB magically and checked the VIN and saw it to be 70 units within the recall. So he ordered a new driveshaft. Apparent victory right? Well, as instructed, I will mark the driveshaft with a Sharpie or some such and see what happens. I will also ask to see the removed parts to identify after they say work is complete. It all appears on the up and up but you never know with some people these days. Ordered the XM as well and scheduled the 5k initial service.

Your help is greatly appreciated!:wrench:

I called service with a vin to see if mine had a recall and was told there was nothing out on that vehicle. Do I need to give them the TSB number anyways? And if so, what is the number?

I think the TSB is 370011 (or it could be TSB0117-08). It has been about a year now and I do recall that the service department had to verify that the vehicle was "clunking" in order to replace the driveshaft. 20k miles now and no clunk.

I didn't need a whole replacement, just a lube and everything has been fine for over 20k already.

I think it is only a field replacement if the vehicle has the clunk. It isn't "fixed" unless the failure (clunk) exists. If you don't have it don't go looking for it. I wish mine was fine.

Jonesky, no worries. I'm just as paranoid as you about my vehicles, sometimes I think I should block this forum so I can sleep better at night and have more money. My drive line was replaced, quick, painless, and now jumps quickly off the line.

Sentiments greatly appreciated. Nice thoughts indeed.:grinpimp:

I'm confident it will get sorted out. Just a pita.

replace it with rubber bands.....works great till t hey need winding again.

Did the "install" on the towing "package" and almost got grease on me. :crybaby: Close call. Then towed my boat (about a 6k lb trailer and all Super Air 230 Nautique) for the first time. Had to install an extender for the electrics to the trailer but no big deal and I wrapped the extender wires in some plastic shrouding from Lowe's. The LC tows fine. Happier with my choice all the time.

Tomorrow to the dealer for a new driveshaft and XM and a 5k service. Told them I want to see parts that I will mark shortly. Hopefully I can talk the folks there into deactivating the darn seat belt chime, too. Wish me luck.

I'd be hesitant on that. As I understand it, it's an all-or-nothing bell. If you disable the seat belt chime, you also disable the VSC, TRC, and every other safety chime. Also, they may make you sign a liability waiver, which I would never do. I can't imagine how that could be adversely used in a court case if you were ever involved in an accident -- your fault or not. You are disabling a government mandated safety component.

You should be wearing your seatbelt anyways, so if it's beeping, put the damn thing on!

Couldn't agree more with the above statement. :steer:

If it also kills all the other bells and whistles then obviously I won't do it. I thought it was individually selectable and will check on it. And are you certain the Gov mandates the chime, itself?
That being said I consider the chime a nuisance. I always have my belt on when needed and am incredibly safety minded. However, if I'm hunting or some such and driving a very short distance off road (or whatever) to reposition I may not want to, or be able to easily, put the belt on and it's then that I don't want to listen to the f'ing chime. It's a nuisance and not needed. All that damn thing has accomplished is to piss me off.

It is not a law, but could raise liability concerns. Offroading, I know what you mean. Sometimes you are just backing up or doing something quick and it gets on your nerves. However, I still would not want to disable it.
