I'm hoping by the time the weather cools off for fall I'll have a legit heat source in my shop to work on some projects through the winter, so I'm trying to get a head start on collecting some plate steel for when the bumper construction begins. I'm thinking 1/4" is the thickest I should need at any point (that being the winch mount/crossmember between the front ends of the frame), and for any gussets I add into the design. I'm also planning to add two recovery points on each bumper that will double as mounts to the frame. My plan right now is to source some 3/4" or 1" stock and having a shop cut it to what I need. Drilling won't be a problem since I have my drill press. Might just have to buy some new stock for those since I don't see it being easy to get my hands on any scrap large enough for me to use.
Anyway, if any of you guys have or know someone who has some plate to offload, gimme a holler! I haven't gotten to play with my welder even as much as another Mudder I loaned it to (I'm looking at you Britt).
