Well, it finally got into the teens around here.

My truck sits for a week at a time before I have to move it for street cleaning.

Now that it's so freakin' cold, last night when I started it after sitting for 5 days, I noticed what I thought was excessive engine noise. Kinda like that dry starting sound. Didn't sound healthy at all. Then after letting it warm up for about 5 minutes, the drivetrain was making all kinda whirring sounds too until it warmed up.

I'm running 5W-30.

last night i left my truck in the driveway for 6 hours because i forgot to put it in the garage after bringing stuff in. When i went to get food at 1am, it was brick out.

When i started it and my cd player(kenwood) started to spin up it made a really odd sound, so i turned it off until i got the interior warmed up. After turning the radio off i just drove down the street to the light slowly since the motor was cold. At the light, while it was idling at 1050rpm, i started to hear a terrible, rattling grinding death sound. I put it in neutral and revved it lightly. When it came back to idle the sound went away. Didnt hear it after that and didnt hear it this morning...even though my truck was in the garage, it was 30degrees in there.

Macneill, if ur truck sits for a week u should let me borrow it...mine needs a day off. :grinpimp:

This cold weather makes so many weird random scary sounds happen that arent normally heard.

Macniell - sounds like a normal cold weather start to me.

We are in the single digits here in MD right now. Past couple mornings have heard a very brief "bbrrrrrnn" immediately after startup. I'm guessing that it might be the brake booster as it only lasts a split second. Also, for the first minute or so of driving, I can hear (what I think) is the front wheel bearings whirring. Going to re-pack them as soon as it warms up a bit. My other vehicles are occupying garage space while I fix them so can't do any repairs inside right now.
