Got to burn some peaches....
Who has an easy quick recipe that I can throw together after work?
Thinking of doing a batch in cast iron (dutch oven) in the oven....
 
Sorry I don't have the recipe with me as I'm mobile right now...but I do an AP/fine corn meal blend (blue corn meal would be interesting!) for my spoon-drop style cobbler. Note to self: Methinks the blue corn meal would give it that southwestern touch.

Cast iron works well as long as, if there are leftovers, you pull it from the CI as the acid from the fruit will turn it gray/black overnight if left in the CI.
 
Somebody please school me in the terminology of cobblers.
I've never met a cobbler I didn't like but knowing what label to put on what style would be kind of nice.

I break cobblers into two broad categories:
Cakey
and
Biscuitey/dumplingey

I'm pretty sure those aren't official baking terms.:hillbilly:
 
Just listened to a Splendid Table podcast about cobblers. The term "cobbler" is ambiguous today. Originally it was supposedly named because the biscuit similarity in appearance to cobblestones...so that's how I make my "cobbler". I make mine in cast iron or a baking dish (Planet X) using fruit slurry on the bottom and drop biscuit mixture by the spoonful on top and bake.

Then there are variations with terms like: Slump, betty, pandowdy, grunts, etc.
 
Easiest cobbler recipe for camping;

2 cans fruit depending on size of pan/oven
1 can sprite
1 cup brown sugar
I box yellow cake mix

Dump in pan
Cover
Place on coals until done

Eat
