Hi to all,

I have just bought a 02 landcruiser 105 petrol 198,000 k previous owned by large pastoral company , no beach work that I can detect has spent most of its life 400k inland of Brisbane Queensland. goes well is completly dry underneath has had all major services done.

has harsh take up of clutch unless you are very carefull letting out clutch and slight vibration from tailshaft area I think, relying on my memory of 20 years ago as a Mech.
any thoughts would be appreciated as I have not owned a 4x4 before, I bought it to tow a big caravan with

thanks Allan:)

IIRC from past posts (maybe it was the 80scool or 100scool site a few years back?), the LC105 w/ 5spd manual and 1HZ is known to suffer from a clutch shudder problem, even when relatively new. The guys on the 100scool board are mostly Aussies and would know more about this. They're the ones who told me that the ECB bars (East Coast Bullbars) made around Brisbane suck. In the US, we've never gotten manual transmission 80's or 100's.

driverbak, clutch chatter can have several causes like a glazed flywheel where the clutch disc kinda catches/hops around or broken springs on the disc or improperly resurfaced flywheel. Pretty much the only way to find out is to take it all apart and inspect it. It is likely that the 198k KM is still on the original clutch disc and it could need changing anyway.

But before you take it apart, check your clutch master cylinder (assuming there is one) to make sure there is enough fluid. If it is low, check the slave cylinder for leaks. As you know, low fluid can also cause your clutch to act erratically.

I have 98 105 1HZ and it has the same shudder you can overcome it with diffrent pedal release it is an inherent problem which I will fix one day
