Just got home from being overseas fighting the war on drugs in Afghanistan and couldn't wait to jump into our Cruisers for a spin.

While I've been gone my wife has been driving both the trucks to keep things lubed so that they weren't just sitting around for the year I was gone.

I noticed while driving the 60 that the clutch pedal seems to stick near the bottom of it's range of movement especialy when starting off from a full stop. I don't notice any issues while on the go and shifting into the other gears.

At times as I ease the clutch up it springs into action, and you end up spinning the tyres.

So, does the clutch pedal linkage need to be lubed or maybe the clutch cable itself needs some as well?

Or am I totaly wrong?

I'd thought I'd tap into the vast knowledge on MUD before proceeding.

Thanks,

There's not much in the way of any linkage, and there's definitely not a cable. The clutch pedal is connected directly to the master cylinder.

The only easy thing I could think of is that maybe the throwout bearing is sticking on the shaft that it slides on. If you pull the clutch inspection cover you might be able to reach up and smear some grease on it while somebody works the clutch.

Damn... YOu said the part I didn't want to hear... THROW OuT BEARing, also I may have to look at the rear main seal. I'll pull out the manual and have a look see. We have spent a hell of alot on our Cruisers this past year and I don't want to shell out a s*** load more. What can I say though? I love our Cruisers, and I'd sell my house before my Cruisers.

Thanks much for this help.

It is more likely that the Master or Slave is going out. Keep a eye on the fluid levels cause when either goes it can leak out. Also check the return spring on the clutch pedal..it could be off it's hangers.

MY experience with throw out bearings has included noise from it when it goes..but that was years ago in a 1965 ford F series pickup..so I guess I dunno...

Actually the flywheel could be a bit rusty from sitting causing the clutch to grab sometimes. Bleed the system at the slave cylinder and then just drive it!

My 85 did the exact same thing, got so bad that I finally noticed the leaking slave cylinder replaced that and immediatly sprung a leak in the Master. Change that too and so far no problemo.

I didn't meant the bearing itself, I was thinking maybe the shaft that it rides on might be dry.

X2 on what Dave said as well.

Hopefully it's something minor.

Sounds like clutch MC to me, for good luck, change the slave too. Shouldn't take too long and the bleeding process will be good bonding time with your wife...

On the Master /Slave deal. Yes, if one is bad so is the other..Or it will follow shortly. I tried only changing the slave 2 years ago..the master went out 3 months later. do em both when you do one..

IF THAT TURNS OUT TO BE YOUR PROBLEM of course..
