I have a 10/85 FJ60 that the clutch master cylinder is leaking down the inside of the firewall. Fluid is dark and low in resivoir.

Should I’d just replace it, or are the rebuild kits going to stand the test or time? If so...OEM or is aftermarket Ok? OEM even available?
If you have done it lately, where did you find whatever you chose? I have read you need to replace the slave as well. Can it be rebuilt as well or does it need a replaced? I just bought this 60 and am finding stuff to replace everywhere I look. Trying to be cheap, but responsible as well. I don’t want to have to redo anything down the line.
The clutch is working fine right now, but wanted to address it before I put the new carpet in I bought and have it leak all over it.

Normally yes you should replace both when one or the other goes out. Get familiar with places like ToyotaPartsDeal.com for getting OEM part numbers and decent pricing if they are still available. Think of it this way, the OEM part lasted this long so why take the chance of rebuilding it when the cost of the kit will more than likely be half the full new part price and the full new part will more than likely last you the same amount of years.

Should still be available. The 7* series were using the same unit for 20 years after the 60 series finished production. There are about 6-7 part numbers for the same unit. No appreciable differences.
I have used aftermarket master cyls for the clutch and brake with no problems. If you want to rebuild, get a machinist to put a stainless steel insert.

Old hydraulic cylinder bores often get pitted from moisture contaminating the brake fluid. Once the bore starts to rust & pit, new seals won't seal for long if at all. Just replace the whole sucker. It's cheap.

Replace both. Not sure if the master is still available from the dealership anymore.
I did both and a Toyota slave cylinder line also.. Best thing I ever did.

Im using a 60 master in my Lexus swap. It failed not too long ago and peed brake fluid on my carpet. Local advance auto had one and I was set. If I ever have a problem, I like that I can take it back and they will likely work with me.

Thanks guys,I’ll figure out what the latest part number is and start checking online for new OEM master and slave as well as the line in between.

Rockauto has the master and slave cylinders. Good pricing.

I replaced my master last week. Aisin CMT-032
The slave is fine, and I have a rebuild kit for both, going to do them, and place on shelf for future

Rebuilds are cheap, but as oss said, if the bore is pitted, do not bother.

This just happen to mine, and I got an Aisin Master Cylinder and the Aisin Clutch Slave on Amazon. Was super simple. Took me 46 minutes to remove old cylinder and slave, bleed out old fluid and install new parts.. only like 8 bolts.. super simple
