So to start, I have a 2000 4Runner SR5 5-speed and have been having issues recently with the clutch when starting the truck. I push the clutch in to start the vehicle and nothing happens. I am able to start the truck with the clutch start cancel button and it drives and shifts normally. I am assuming that there is some sort of clutch sensor that recognizes when the clutch is engaged and allows the truck to start. I have searched on here a bit and mainly come across people discussing the sensor being bent and not engaging when the clutch pedal is pressed. I have not verified whether this is the case, but was wondering if any other people have had the same issue and if so, what they did to fix it. I am hoping that I don't have to replace the sensor, but if I do, does anyone know how difficult that would be? Does anyone have any pictures of the stock sensor placement so that I can check whether it is bent? Thanks in advance for any hints or advice.

On my '04 Taco, I have to push the clutch all the way to the floor/as far as it will go, to engage the button/sensor that allows the truck to start. You may have to do the same on your truck.

I ended up fixing it last night. The metal bracket holding the sensor had bent a bit back towards the firewall and even with the clutch pedal pushed through the floor it wouldn't start. Bent the bracket back and it works now. I also had another issue that is a bit embarrassing. I had actually disconnected the wiring from the sensor when I installed my IPF lights and was running the switch wiring through the firewall grommet. Forgot to reattach it. DOH!
