does anyone know if the clutch from a 78 Fj40 with 4 speed will work in a 1980 Hj45 with 4 speed?

The clutch disc should fit but the pressure plate is different.

do i need to replace pressure plate if the clutch is slipping?

i got no idea about a clutch's workings.

The HJ clutch is a different beast all together from the FJ. at one time i thought they were the same but i paid attention and compared the 2 after the last clutch install. the only same part is the imput spline coller spline count. the HJ has more springs (dual rows) to deal wit the torque from the H engine.

Normally you'd replace it. It takes the same sort of beating as the flywheel. If it's not scored/burnt I suppose you could reuse. There are also shops that will rebuild it for you for alot less than $400! I had one rebuilt for the 3B for $150 and that included relining the disk.
