My FJ60 emits a high pitched, but not loud, squeal/squeak/chirp when the clutch is up. This happens both in nuetral and in gear. If I push the clutch down even a half inch the squeak stops. Does this sound like something that could be corrected with a clucth free play adjust? I've never done any clutch or transmission work on an FJ60, so it's new terrain for me. Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks.

You can adjust the clutch under the dash. Just follow the pedal up, you will see the push rod that goes into the master cylinder. It is connected to the pedal by a pin and a cotter pin. take those out, then you can adjust the pushred by turning the connector between cylinder and pedal-you will see, it is qbvious.
However, a whine like you describe is more likely the sign of a dying throwout bearing/clutch bearing. To change that you will have to drop transfer and transmission...

One other thing to try
- remove inspection cover
- smear some white lithium grease on 'snoot' of tranny just behind ThrowOut bearing
- have helper step on & hold clutch pedal to the floow
- carefull (use long Q-Tip or...) apply tad of grease just in front of TO bearing.

Worked on mine ( used to 'wirrrr - growl' )

Thanks for the replies.

I hope it's not the bearing getting ready to self destruct, I don't even want to think about pulling the transmission and transfer case... It's my only vehicle and an operation like that would put it out of commission for too long.

I'll try greasing the nose of the trans first.

Thanks again.
