Okay, I will grant you that sitting in 4 hours of traffic is not worth it. Yes I have done that little bump in the snow quite a few times and have seen one pile up after another. Hopefully the day will come in BC when it will be law that everyone has snow tires on their vehicles from Dec 1 to March 1. Having to drive the province for work, its one of the reasons I moved to the FV. One winter trip to Fort St. James it took me nearly 4 hours to get to Chilliwack from Vancouver. By the time I hit Cache Creek or Rock Creek, I usually see the last of the idiots crawling on all season tread at 50-60 kms/hr. Last year I had a lecture from a guy I passed and caught up to me at a restaraunt in Osoyoos. Shut him up quick when I pointed out my studded Nokians compared to his ****py Tire all seasons.
yep, ain't the biggest hill around, but it's more the people on it than the hill itself...
Last time I drove the malahat in a decent snow fall was about a year ago on the way to a Tool concert. My buddy and I left chemainus at around 11am to get to vic by 8. passed dozens of stuck cars, a smouldering powerline and a jackknifed semi ...
we had time to park the car and grab a coffee and that's about it...
Hell, the road I live on is flat, still had 2 cars in the ditch. People suck at snow driving around here.

the city actually put in a concrete median on the corner, neighbours were kinda shocked, they'd been complaining about the corner for over ten years and nothing happened...
Mel complains for a few months and they build medians and start a study on traffic calming...must've been her tone of voice...;p
