i know there was a thread about doing it as a group but that was a while back. i would defiantly be interested. Better sooner rather then later as i will have no life no free time after the first of the year.

I too was hoping to study for the technician test this winter when the cold forces me to stay indoors (this Florida boy's blood is still as thin as water so I don't venture outdoors much when it's cold). Would like to get HAM in the truck as a companion to the CB.

Once you get your ham license and start using it you will understand how awesome ham radio is compared to CB. The range and clarity is so much better (have gotten about 25 miles out of my $35 Boafeng UV5R handheld ham radio with a $15 dollar antenna, super cheap radio super cheap antenna) and if you have your radio programmed for the nearest repeater and can reach it the range is HUGE.

Here is the thread started last summer about HAM interest: Trail communications...HAM interest?
It was mentioned at the October meeting but I have a contact who happens to be the instructor for the Gallatin Ham Radio Club, Gallatin Ham Radio Club and if there is enough interest, 5 or more people, we could organize test prep sessions or a private test. Testing is $14.00.

If folks are interested I can revive the above thread or start a new one to get things organized.

Thanks,

There is a test session December 9, 2017 hosted by the Gallatin Ham Club. That would be plenty of time to prepare for the technician license exam.

Being new, I'm not sure if this has come up before or not? I was wondering if there's a "designated" club CB channel? When I'm out and about town I tend to have my CB on and scanning channels just for the heck of it (you hear some interesting things at times!). The other day in traffic, TC spotted me and waved. It would have been cool to just jump on the radio and be able to say "Hey, what's up? Where ya headed?, etc.). Not two minutes after that, I spotted another member and would have liked to done the same thing. So I guess it's really two questions....

1. Is there a designated channel?
2. How many people keep their radios on when they're out and around town?

That’s a great question....Not sure if there is a designated channel...I’m still new to this, how ever I bet there a couple of channels that tend to get used the most. Be kind of nice, when I come back to Bozeman area from time to time...to see if any of the members have their ‘ears’ on.
