My 99 has a cloth interior which I happen to prefer over the leather. Does anybody know when Toyota quit putting cloth interiors in? Now you can only get leather.

Thanks,
BC

You can special order cloth, which is my preference also.

In many cases the leather on the early 100's wre port installed option. My 99 was cloth and the F??? dealer replaced it with leather. I wanted to burn the place down after I found that up but this is a different story.

Do they make you pay extra for the luxury of getting only what you want?

I hate sliding around on the leather but do like how easy it is to clean up.

98-99 only years for cloth in a 100 AFAIK.

and you can't specail order a Cruiser......you take what they have or what they can trade for.

You can special order exactly what you want, within reason. Dealers don't like to it, but you can order what you want. For instance, I've got paperwork for special order LC with cloth seats, no sun roof, and no roof rack. Haven't decided if I'm going to execute the order. About 3 month delivery on a special order unit.

I just picked up an '04 and didn't have a choice of seating materials. I’m not a big fan of leather seats either, I just hope they last a few years before they start cracking. I understand the leather used on the Lexus LX470 is a higher grade than the Land Cruiser. Oh well.

Man, I cannot believe you guys do not like leather. Especially if you take it out in the field. Super easy clean up and extremely durable when taken care of.

I think the cloth simply wears better over a long period of ownership. All LC's come with leather, sunroof, third row seats, etc....they come loaded. If you don't want a "loaded" version, there are choices provided you can wait for a few months for delivery. You can't opt for things like diesel powerplant....unfortunately.

I had no idea you could really special order one. Have you ever seen a build sheet with possible options/deletes?

The options sheet is minimal as they come loaded for the US market. You can adjust and delete things and the price will adjust accordingly, but there are limitations. They're not going to allow one to change the dash, transmission, or the poweplant, but leather/cloth, third row/not, sunroof/not, towing package/running boards can be adjusted. To special order a TLC, I'm guessing, is not terribly common so most dealers either don't want to do so because of the trouble, or more likely they want every accessory installed in order to make more money per unit. I think most owners want to purchase them loaded so Toyota accessorizes with popular options packages re-loaded. If you do deviate from the norm, they do require a deposit.

really what you are doing is having the new car manager order a unit for his stock with certain trim options or deletions that they can make. this makes sense. Hopefully you added the box and checked it for the dsl option and solid axle :D Its funny the stuff I have seen new car managers order........some of it was so out of the norm that it sat for over a year on the lot.....and sold for a HUGE discount.

But unless you will keep that 2005 100 with no sun roof for the rest of your life I would think hard about not ordering a sunroof, its not gonna be an easy re-sell.

Roof racks are often port or dealer installed, I see lots of 100's both Cruiser and Lexus without roof racks. Actaully in my parking lot there is a Lexus LX470 with NOTHING on it, no rack, no rear deck thingy, no running boards.......its the most plain jane 100 I have ever seen.........frankly it looks really funny(compared to what you normaly see)

But just because the dealer filled out an order for what you want doesn't mean toyota will give it to them.

I have a client that did indeed specail order a Lexus 300, it took a year to get, it was a color that was not offered on the 300 anyplace in the world, but was a 420 color......sad part is the order took so long to get that the husband who ordered it died the week after he picked it up........it now sits in the garage with under 1000 miles on it :(

Point taken. I had my '91 and drove it to 180,000 and my '98 has 110,000...hope to get it past 200,000 before getting the new car itch. My philosophy is that if you're going to have the truck for 10 years, might as well configure it the way you want it. Hate sunroofs. They leak, break, and diminish headroom. If I want open air, I'll buy a convertible.

Does this mean that one can also special order the rear diff lock, as it's still an option on 100s in Japan?

The reason why these cars need heated seats is because the leather is too cold when it's cold out, too hot when it's hot out. I have black cloth seats in both of my cars and live in Tucson, and have no issues w/ hot seats. My real estate agent, who drove an ES300, said you couldn't get Lexi in So. AZ with heated seats (not that I've looked to verify), and it does get cold in the winter (below freezing).

I could definitely go without having a sun roof. The sunroof is just a waste as far as I'm concerned. Never gets used, and was just an added obstacle for installing the overhead DVD player.

I love having the sunroof.

During the day on some drives, I slide open the sunroof panel but keep the glass closed and it lets light come through. The cabin feels lighter and bigger.

I took a girlfriend to San Francisco and opened the sunroof as we drove down the winding Lombard street. She stood up on the seat and took pictures of the road as we drove down, smiling and laughing all the way.

I remembered doing this with another friend in Yosemite on another road trip. We were in thier van that had a sunroof, but we opened it up and stood up as we drove slowly through some beautiful parts of the valley.

At night, we listen to music and open the sunroof to look at stars.

I don't think it takes anything away from the LC to have a sunroof, and I really like having the options to do fun things with it.

Man I LOVE my sunroof, never had a leaky one, on any car/cruiser. I think in WA sunroofs prolly get used more than in alot of places, why? because its gray 1/2 the year and when the sun is out we WANT to see it :)

Oddly WA sells more sunglasses then any other state(per capita I imagine)........kinda funny, but true ;)

Headroom? I can't see the issue in a 100.

But heck yeah, get it the way you want.

and Jim..............trust a RE agent?..........come awn :D

In OZ, rear diff lock is still an option (well was in 03) front not available though with IFS. In the solid axle series, front and rear factory locks are an option for $750 for both together. Cloth seats come standard and leather is only generally available in the Sahara model which is $20,000 dearer (probably like your standard model) They bring out some specials like at the moment leather and a few other luxury items thrown in as a package in the GXL version.
The turbo diesel is $10000 dearer in OZ than the V8, a ripoff, they are cheaper in the UK and the same price in Italy.
