Tried to start the truck today and it initially turned over but then I got the clicking noise from the starter. Replaced the battery but no joy. Is it safe to assume that the alternator is shot ?

Did you have the same klicking noise from the starter after replacing the battery??If so,i would suspect the startermotor contacts.

check your grounds first. if they're corroded, take em off and clean em up and put it back together tight. also check continuity of your fuse links....do easy stuff first, then move on to harder more expensive things. FYI, starter contactor kits are available....or at least, they used to be.....

Please check the easy stuff first as Lambcrusher stated!

Tnks guys for ur help. It was the starter motor. Bushings had worn out so my faithful dirsel mechanic fixed and installed it today. Back on the road again :)
