I am thinking that it might be time for me to go back to an 80 series so I am looking at selling my 40.
$19500 or open to trades for 80 series.
Basic info: Its a 1974 FJ40 that looks like it was dune beige originally but was later panted a green color. It comes with a beautiful black soft top and all the original bows and bars to install the soft top. There are two best top half vinyl doors and two full doors. The full doors need work but they are functional as is. I only use it as a three season vehicle so the full doors are only used every once in a while. I also have almost all the parts for a hard top including all the glass. The only big part that is missing is the roof. You can have those parts or not. As is, it is a fantastic driver. Frame is virtually rust free and any that is there is surface. Body parts are all in great shape with the exception of the bib it has some rust that needs to be fixed. Everything works on it as it should.
What I have done:
-ironman shocks done all around and new ironman leaf springs up front (I have the rear, but there was a lift done by a PO that didn't quite get the front to the right height so I did the front first). With that all new bushings and shackles and greaseable bolts were used. I also installed the extreme ubolt skid plates from SOR. I have all the parts for the rear leaf springs including anti inversion brackets, bushings, bolts, and ubolt skid plates that will come with the 40.
-Engine bay: New thermostat, new thermostat upper and lower housing, all new radiator hoses, as I was doing that I also took out the radiator support bracket, shroud, lower splash guard, battery tray, and air cleaner housing to de-rust them and then coat them with POR15. Brand new alternator from VintageTeq. While I was doing that I built new new wires for the battery and alternator and put in a blue sea fuse block for accessories. It had an oil leak coming from the galley cover so I replaced that gasket and de-rusted/painted the cover. New spark plug wires from Cruiser Corps. New Toyota fuel pump just installed.
- Exhaust: I took out the old exhaust from the engine back. Had the manifolds sandblasted. I then had a new flange and downpipe fabricated. Behind that is a all new blot together exhaust. Its not the prettiest but it gets the job done.
-As stated above the PO put in a later model 2F engine, they also installed mini truck power steering and disc brakes up front.
-Brand new BFG KM3 33x10.5 on brand new Toyota 15" wheels. New lug nuts and hubcaps.
-Headlight upgrade from city racer
-Molded front mat, rubber mat in rear, new shifter boots for trans and transfer.
-Refurbished gauge cluster so mileage is not accurate. I also do not know at what mileage the engine was replaced.
-Radio installed, but it is wired to an always hot wire so you have to turn it on and off.
-Charcoal canister has been mounted with a redline mount but still needs to be plumbed.
-CCOT seatbelts have been install on all four seats.
This is no restoration. Anytime something has needed to be worked on or replaced, I have tried to do it with new parts. Overall its a great 40 to drive around in and have fun without worrying that someone will open a door and ding it. I have an 8yo son and he and his friends love to ride in it.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions you might have, extra pictures you want, or if you are really serious I can even arrange a facetime to show it to you.
Thanks for looking,
Mike
