cleaning up look of split transfer case

I was rebuilding a split case connected to a H55F and really wanted to clean up the T-case housing. Even though it is aluminum it was looking pretty nasty. First I cleaned and cleaned it with all the normal good degreaser stuff, gave it a good wash in my parts cleaner tank. Yet it still did not look that good (many of you know what I am talking about). I thought about the old wire wheel, but then it gets all pitted and scatchy looking. So I decided well I guess paint it is. I wanted to keep in looking simular to the nature look and decided to try some "hammered look" gray paint. It came out better than I thought. Here are some pics.

Looks good. I'm going to do something similar. I had a fleeting thought about heat transfer befores I smacked myself on the forehead and reminded myself that my t-cases are nearly always incased in an inch-thick layer of muskeg. That smooth paint should make the case a bit easier to clean as well.

Looks good. I know people who bead blast and clearcoat as well, for that nice shiney look...that would make things easier to clean too!

when I went to rebuild and change the gears in my t-case use a AC evaporator acid left it clean but dark
