Anyone have some suggestions for cleaning up a diesel leak off of a concrete driveway?
My fuel pump seals have been leaking for a bit apparently, and the wife phoned me on my way work yesterday asking about the big pool of stuff on the driveway.
Pump is now resealed, with new marine grade fuel lines as well courtesy of Ateb. Sorry Steve, it was puking pretty bad and I couldn't wait.
John also showed me all the worn out front end components I have as well. I suspected as much, was just secretly wishing it wasn't so.

I've used oven cleaner and rented a hot water pressure washer before as well. If you try the oven cleaner make sure you spot test it first too see if it discolors your drive way. I've got to get my pump resealed as well..... doh!

good to hear it's sealed. The shop guys have been working their butts off and I don't see anyway to get you in here before late next week.

We're doing a tub job, frame repair & paint, rear disks, PS, heated seats, 5 spd, 12HT swap into a BJ42 right now. Plus the regular steady flow of Cruisers. I don't want the guys working weekends just yet. Overtime during the regular week is enough for now.

Rather than oven cleaner a less toxic first try would be TSP (tri-sodium phosphate) and very hot water. I use it for washing greasy coveralls when the wife is not home.

Ah, phosphates are a brilliant cleaning agent. Too bad they took them out of every detergent out there.... TSP is a good grease remover, but use hot water.

Most oven cleaners are based on NaOH (sodium hydroxide), and are pretty caustic.

If you're not over asphalt, you may want to try something like SuperClean (Castrol) or the WalMart equivalent that costs less and works about as well. This stuff is pretty caustic too, and I expect it's also NaOH based.

Some "all purpose" cleaners (like the day-glo yellow stuff you can get at London Drugs) can work very well.

Tare up the concrete and put some gravel down

This works really well. Also, I have used Shell Busey's It’s Just that Easy!TM Heavy Duty Cleaner with good results on motor oil and diesel spills.

For a lazy redneck, isn't tearing up a driveway too much work, shouldn't your suggestion be: Have a few more beer so your eyes don't see quite strait and piss on the stain!:hillbilly:

Your right:doh:

 only two options, sell the house and buy a place with a gravel drivway and leak away or get a wife that dont comlpain about diesel in the driveway

wont it just weather away

When it's dry out, pour gas on it and cover in the shop kitty litter stuff. It'll be the whitest spot on the concrete.

Fortunately, I got the one who doesn't mind diesel, oil, etc, on the driveway. Or the lawn for that matter. :)

You could stain the rest of the driveway in diesel, and be the neighbour with the fancy driveway.:hillbilly:
