For Sale - ‘88 HJ61 in OK

See the above thread. Body issues, mostly in the roof. I had @beno look at it for a friend in CO, talked several times to the CO owners. It has been in OK with the same owner since it was bought in CO.

I have never driven the truck or seen it in person. If you can fix the body and don't need A/C, a left hand drive HJ61 is a joy to drive and own. I am lucky enough to have nearly a twin to it, also a Spanish HJ61/LHD/12HT/h55. Mine is semi float rear, but has A/C. This one is full float but no A/C.

I think it's hard to price these trucks as LHD is so rare in the states. I've seen 6 for sale in 5 years. Maybe 7. The price for RHD HJ61s is moving closer to the low 20's. Given all these variables, I personally think $16k for this truck is on the high side given the body condition. To the right buyer, it may be worth it. Valuation is in the eye of the beholder, and all Cruiser prices keep climbing. How much is a 12HT with the steering wheel on the left side of the truck worth? Depends. I love the $%^& out of mine.

I have a plan in motion for my next 60 that I am happy about. If I didn't, I think this truck would be a smokin deal for the right person. Like @bottombracket stated, "to the right buyer". If you know body work and are up for it, a roof repair or replacement really wouldn't be so bad. You can halt the rust now, enjoy it til the money is there, then fix it proper later. With ones own labor and paint work, the repair would be around $2k I'm guessing. Having it done maybe $5k? Not so bad.

given the extent and location of the roof rust- my guess is that it isn’t limited to the roof alone. Gutters and pillars are most likely part of the equation for starters and a slippery slope if “A” pillar is involved. Also while the 12ht is good for well over 250k Miles- my guess would be the tcase and tranny would need some attention : a few syncros and tcase rebuild I would imagine should be on the doorstep at that mileage if it hasn’t been done. And then there’s p.m. of worn 250k usual wear items. Axle service, tired leafs, brakes etc.

Could you buy it and run it as is? Yes, but the above items are the start to a long and very expensive list even at diy prices. and then factor in time involved - when I look at this I personally see a years list of work minimum and at least $5k of diy stuff. so even if the seller takes $14k- you are a year plus and getting close to $20k.

And $20k right now....gets you a lot of alternatives that aren’t a year plus away from fully p.m.d and ready to go. That’s just one outsiders way to look at this cool rig. Or could you talk this one down and be ahead of the game in terms of time and money@$22k???1989 RHD High Roof JDM Turbo Diesel Land Cruiser.......for an extra $2-3k would you be waaaay ahead.????
