So I had never heard of anyone welding the steering arm to the knuckle. In the event you have sheared the knuckle studs and have no spares. Jimmy, the friend from MA, is sitting in front of me in the pic and we did just that. We welded the studs to the knuckle from the inside, which I would actually recommend to anyone (brilliant idea), then mounted the arm, with shim, to the knuckle and welded the pics out of it from the outside. 24v on a ready welder can really lay in the heat! Should work just fine.

In other news, here's yesterday mushroom shot:

Without the studs, how can you sandwich the shim pack and trunnion bearing for proper preload.?

I know Burt has mad clearance now, but that dude laying under the truck while Mike is wheeling sure seems like a safety issue.

 R

Nothing like a nice granite mattress and pillow!

That was me under the truck having a bad day. Gravity was winning the fight up that obstacle. This trip has shown me my weak links that I need to address before challenging Burt again.

I need steering assist to keep me on the right line, newer tires with good tread to grip the proper line, selectable front locker, and a front shaft with long travel spline. Oh and some damn tail light protection.
I might add that I've never seen so much breakage at a wheeling location. I consider myself lucky around these trails.

Been to 44 states. ;)

Wheeled in only 9 though

Been to 20 countries

But only wheeled in 4 of them.

When I win the lottery i'll up that to 50 states and 196 countries with wheeling in all of them.

Thus has been a great trip. The club needs to get out and explorer other states. Even if you just ride with someone.

I like to get out and explore other states but i'm not going to do it in an explorer. :p

Great time today! Jason I found original inclinometer! :) trying to fiqure out how to down bids from my iPad.

I have one of those on my bench.... trying to figure out how to mount it on the 80s curved dash and still make it look good.

There are some really tough trails at Raushe. I was there 4 years back and ran black trails with Johnny, that is where we met. I like Raushe as much as I like Harlan.

Two of the studs had good threads, so we used those to locate and compress everything

Yeah man, I remember! That was a good trip. Fjne event in April of 2010, right? The trails here are badass! I've already taken 20gb of video on my gopro and a couple of gigs on my phone. Hopefully that's enough evidence to convince people to come to this trip next year

Moonshine went swimming yesterday :p

I believe that is the right time frame Johnny. I miss getting out wheeling as often as we did a few years back, buying the farm has changed our priorities for a bit. All this rain has set us back on our schedule as well. Heather and I both are looking forward to getting a trail rig together and getting back on the trails again.

We have a couple irons in the fire now that may speed up that time table a bit, but for now we are plodding along doing a little at a time. But to those of you that have only been to URE and other "close" trail systems, getting out to places like Coal Creek (Wind Rock), Rausche Creek and Harlan is well worth the trip. We would like to add Superlift in Arkansas to our list as well, time will tell.
