I would like to strip the chrome plating off of my grille and paint it black. the chrome is now starting to peel, but most of it seems to be really stuck on the plastic. I am afraid that if i try to sand it off i will destroy the plastic below the chrome.. Does anyone know of a chemical stripper that will work on this or a means of removing the chrome? thanks

try a wire wheel on a drill, it worked well on mine to remove the flaking areas of the chrome

probably a candidate for soda blasting, I've only heard it done on metal parts though.

I have a blacked out grill, and the chrome is mostly still under there,

If you get all the big flakes off and sand, it will probably look fine painted.
