The bb is what makes the clicking. It goes in a hole (on top of a spring) in the plastic block inside the switch housing. The spring pushes the bb out against the inside of the housing with the click denoting stops. Did you replace the whole assembly (they're not really meant to be repaired)? Or did you just resolder the old or a new cable to bead inside the housing? That sometimes works, but the reason they usually break in the first place is because the old cable is rusted or kinked, so reattachment will usually break again soon.
