I have done research to understand the tools and techniques of Soda blasting but I need advice on the best tools to adopt for the scale of the task. As I am new to the process I do not have any of the experience which contributors to this forum can offer.
As you can see from the files I plan on removing paint from railings. I have tried with paint stripper but the task of removing patchy paint by hand is daunting. With the paint softened I imagine Soda blasting is a good option.
I have considered hiring a compressor and have also considered buying the siphon fed Metaltech MTSB07G (Metaltech MTSB07G 7 Gallon (26.5L) Portable Soda BlasterDefault Title - https://toolswarehouse.com.au/products/metaltech-mtsb07g-7-gallon-26-5l-portable-soda-blaster?variant=21213531603057). My impression is the gravity fed guns will need a lot of re-filling. Here, in Australia, the range of DIY Soda blasting gear is more limited than the USA. Nevertheless I intend to paint the railings and want to get a good long lasting result using good products.

1. I would be very grateful to learn opinions regarding the best equipment to buy for a one time project.

2. How much soda should I buy?

It would be money well spent to hire this out to a pro. Blasting is a very messy, monotonous job that can be very bad for your health if you don't have the right safety gear.

The gear to blast more than a hand sized spot effectively is a lot of money. A $25k air compressor. $1500 hood. $2000 pressure pot, hose and valve. Great deals can be had on used gear, but it's still way more expensive than paying to have a pro do it.

The mobile blasting guys around me seem to be around $1500/day

BTW, a couple decades ago I built a 200lb pressure pot, rigged up a supplied air system from my military firefighting gear and bought a 185 CFM John Deere powered IR compressor. I used it maybe 20 hours/2500 lbs of sand over a few weeks then I sold it all. I have been happy to pay for blasting services ever since.
