I had a car seat mounted in the rear of my 40 on the side seats...... worked great and I never worried...... he is 14 YO now...
no side effects so far..................wew!

i use the seat belt along with the anchor that latches the seat bottom to the truck. i raise the seat bottom throw the tether over the back of the seat and attach it to the anchor. close the seat bottom and use the seat belt. it fits tighter and moves less than the car seat in my wife's 09 VW. as stated before you can really compress the seats in these old rigs and get a secure fit. i'm as confident in the security of the seat in my '84 fj60 as i was in my wife's toureg.

you mean that you tethered the car seat to the anchor that the seat bottom holds onto? is there enough room for the seat bottom latch and the car seat latch both on the same anchor? i keep my kiddo in the middle and would love to tether it there if that works.

good stuff in that thread..

I just installed two ( i have twins) Nautilus 3 in my 2005 4runner yesterday. The 2005 has two anchor bars in the bottom of the seat back (the anchor bars are in the frame of the seat back, not the floor) The top anchor point is in the seat back. NO anchor points are on the floor, all anchor points are on the seat frame. I do know know if that is a safty issue if you tie into a different part of the 60's body.

that's exactly what i did. it's been that way for 2 yrs and you can't move that seat in any direction. it's a bit of a pain but it works. just over the seat back then under and latched to the anchor. slide it to one side and drop the seat bottom in place. i'm a worry wart when it comes to my daughter in nana or paw paw's car seat so every time she goes with them or anyone else i'm checking the car seat first and i never worry about her in my 60.

I just got my 60 series back a few weeks ago and did this to hold onto my babies. Works great! A bit in the way of cargo room but it serves as a cargo divider for groceries...

It's a cheap option and won't put holes in the LC.

I used to think the LATCH stuff was mostly for convenience, but after using a few rental cars
in the past few months, it also is set up with proper geometry for both the
lower and the rear points.

Securely fastened cargo rings, d- rings, (something stout) in the right places really do make a difference.

I added 'em to a '94 BMW that had the anchor points, but no hardware- made the seat a LOT more secure.
Also, E doesn't get as carsick, since the seat's not moving relative to the car.

For the 60, I'm putting in some tiedowns to use fore the seat.

fwiw,

You could buy one new replacement belt for the baby car seat. The belts in my 60 were all dry rotted. Even worse, my drivers seat metal latch fell apart in my hand when I clicked the seat belt into it. After that happened, I realized they were all old and unsafe.

Does the dealer still sell replacement parts or did you go used? Also if they were new, what did it cost you?

Thanks,
Zack

Our two kids (2years old and 7months old) are strapped in quite safely in the back of the 62. As long as the seat belts work properly (not frayed and the locking mechanism is working), it's fine. One of the seats is a Lamaze via model that has super strong seat belt clamps, and the other one is a Safety 1st brand that is now front facing and has a hole going through the back for either LATCH straps or seatbelt.
