LOL I don't get it. The 80 will do 95% of the trails out there with the coil setup. I never was once on a trail that I thought "Gee I wish I had leaf springs. No way the coil setup handles so well. Even passengers comment on how well it rides. It soaks up the rocks so nice. What about low gears? Your not gonna be able to run to many hardcore trails without lower gearing.

you havent bent an lca yet....leafss are more stabil, as for axle wrap, i'm using the 2500 springs not the 1500 springs

Yes I have bent plenty. I got HD ones now and have not bent them yet. More stable in what way? You mean body roll? Are you running any swaybars now?

You are not going to be able to talk him out of it. All of that work to bastardize a perfectly good LX for no appreciable gain. Don't even bother pointing him to all of the threads about the rear sway bars providing stability and not inhibiting flex.......

You might be right. So let him do it then. And hopefully it will end the "leaf springs are a good idea on an 80 threads".
If your gonna do it then do the double shackles as well.

your obviously not getting my point! i'm ditching the coils to do leafs because all my bushings in the rear are bad, i can relocate my shocks so they wont hit every rock on the con, and, no, i'm not doing a double shackle in the rear, ive done it to my other trucks, it unloads randomly and is scary at times, i'm not ruining an lx i'm making it better, why do you think i'm "bastardizing" an lx? are you mad because you didnt think of it first? or are you mad because i'm thinking outside the box? and why do you care? i honestly couldnt give a s*** less what you or anyone who doesent like the idea think, those who support my idea i appreciate it!

I dont understand why people get so heated about what other do to their trucks. Its their truck, they paid for it, they should do what they please. After having bronco's my whole life and a jeep or two I understand the beauty in simplicity. Although I love how the 80 rides, the rear end looks like an MC Escher painting under there. Bars and wires and rods and bushings going every which way. I admit it would be nice to have two springs, 4 bushings, and an axle to deal with, instead of a jillion moving parts. Besides, leaf springs set up properly can net you a very good ride. Maybe not a s plush as the coils, but still totally livable. As heavy as the 80 is, I think leaves will do just fine.

yes thank you blunt force!!!!! lol i'm dedicating this build for you! hahahahahahaha

Are you telling your insurance company? :flipoff2:

You guys need to see some rigs with 63" springs perform before you say it's a downgrade. The 3/4t 63" conversion is considered a more hardcore mod in the 60s section but yields an incredible amount of flex that, in my opinion, rivals the 80 coil suspension. That mod is on my list as soon as I am able to pick up a new frame.

Here is a pic of a friend's Tacoma that has the 63" springs installed.

That's how it goes here. You wouldn't beleive the bashing I've gotten here for what I have done to my truck and the personal emails from guys that will hate you for not having a rock crawler IDENTICAL to theirs. They just don't understand that people have different applications for their trucks and they will downright put you down if you are different. That's why I haven't been around lately. I just came back to ask the few that won't dog me for advise on my new setup. Such is life! LOL :bounce::bounce2::grinpimp:

here is a pic of the earlier stages of my 4runner ibuilt

Is that avitar a picture of your truck?

Yeah, 63" springs have flex like crazy, especially under a heavy truck like a 60 or an 80.

It's about time we have some originality on here! I'm sick of seeing OME suspension, ARB bumpered, 315 running clones.........

Fact is most people on here are fairly new to wheel'in. So a radical change like a 3 link or leaf springs may freak some out.
This website is fantastic for motor rebuild, HG and Bolt on mods. But for fabrication, not so much.......

Ever wander into the Hardcore Corner?;)

Axle wrap, anti-squat, roll axis....etc. Don't think some leaf spring from a 3/4 ton pickup are going to address those things as well as that link setup. Plus...it's a FACT that your Lexus will no longer ride like a Lexus. And there is great potential for less flex. All of this because you don't like how the shocks hang so low, you have a worn out control arm bushing, and a bent arm.

Well.....move the damn shocks, sounds like you're going to move them anyways. Pretty sure you're going to be replacing all the bushings in your 'new' 63s, is that any harder than replacing the bushings on those factory control arms? So you bent an arm....sleeve it. Pretty sure it'll be a lot easier to sleeve two control arms then it will be to chop off all the factory stuff and mount up some spring hangers and mounts.

And I REALLY doubt that this is going to be anymore stable than Slee 6" coils and a factory sway bar.

But I'd love to see you prove us all wrong, because then you won't have to deal with the feeling of failure, wasted time, and wasted money.

I'm always down for new, cool, creative, out of the box thinking for an 80.....but this is like going from an iPhone to a 1930s telephone.

I t up and get it done and post picshink it s a cool idea and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the results. My last wheelin vehicle was also a built 4 runner. Coming from that its all about free thinking and figuring out what you need, want, and what'll work. 63s. Flex like a mofo and mixed with the 3 link is probably going to flat out work. And honestly I don't think the ride will be that bad. Plus you won't have to worry about your stiff coil coming unperched when flexed all the way out! Hurry up get it done and post lots of pics!
