I have been reading lots of builds that are using the Chevy 4.3 in front of a 700R4, but I have not read any reports on how well this combo is working in wheeling rigs.

Does anyone have a rig they are wheeling with this combo? How does it behave? Enough power? Issues? Would you do it again or go for a SBC?

I have not yet bought a motor so I still have time to decide.

Thanks,

Steve

Last I heard, even the "shift lever junkie" rock crawlers are opting for automatics. The 700R4 has a lower first gear, an overdrive high gear, takes over 400 ft. lbs. of torque, torque multiplication, drivetrain cushioning, much better hill climbers, and easier for mama to drive!!!!!
As far as 4.3 vs V8, while we offer kits for either, by far the 4.3 is most popular in Toyota Pickups/4 Runners and the V8 most popular in Landcruisers. This is because the tiny little Pickup engine compartment barely holds the V6, let alone a V8, and the lavish Landcruiser compartment easily holds the V8.

I have been contemplating a 4.3 on my upcoming buggy project. I have a Astro van that is about done in the body and suspension dept. My van was loaded to the gills with tools. It easily outweighed my Cruiser. Driving and towing, I never had a lack of power. I would do the 4.3 over an older 350/aspirated any day. My 2c.

Those are my thoughts also. I have a 4.3 in my S10 quad cab 4x4 and it has plenty of power. I just want to hear from someone actually running this combo first...

I have a 71' with a 4.3 and 4l60E out of a 99' Blazer runs pretty hard. Have not wheeled it much but really like it as a daily driver.
