Anybody know what kind of oil pressure a SBC 350 should have? I just changed the oil on the FJ and the oil presure guage is sitting at about 40 PSI. The needle is not even at the half way mark on the guage. It is running fine but have noticed the needle sitting at less than half and was just curious. I will be honest I know nothing about the internals of the engine and I havent used the search function.

Any ideas?
Should I post in the 40 section?

35-40 psi is good on a warm engine cruzing down the road, a little less at idle. a little more at start up (cold engine). it will be a little different if you have a high volume or a wet sump oil pump.

I went ahead and used the search function and found and read a few threads about oil pressure levels. I guess 40 psi is not bad. I will continue to monitor it and read a few more threads to get a little more ejumaketed on the subject.

Thanks for the reply

sounds about right at idle..... put your foot in it and it will move up more, all chevy v8's are like this.

Well it settled at around 25 psi. That is at any speed and at about 1800 rpm. Heat gauge is at 180 so although I guess I'm paranoid it is running perfect. Well, maybe a little rich. But not enough to be a show stopper. A thread I read last night said to expect 10 psi for every 1000 rpm on a sbc. So I am just a little high but nothing too bad I guess..:meh:

10 psi for most any engine out there is the standard i have been told. Thats what i use on all my rides.

Still going to come over to adjust the fuel / air ?
